A very close mate of mine is Scottish and strongly Scot-Nat in his views

He won't disrupt or disrespect the National Anthem but he never sings it. In 102 years of knowing him (we met when I was 1) I've never known anyone take offence at this; he's always happy to explain it. In particular serving members of Her Majesty's Forces, by and large, seem to think it's fine.

Neither me nor my squaddie mates write the Mail, though.
