UKIP is that they've tapped into valid grievances but picked the wrong target

the main parties indeed don't address people's concerns but it isn't because of the EU. It's because since the rise to dominance of free-market economics in the 80s it is the markets that really decide things - governments (including the EU) are pretty impotent when it comes to the economy.

In a sense UKIP is a distraction tactic by people who benefit from the free market (look at their detailed policies - they will overwhelming benefit rich people not the poorer suckers who vote for them) at the expense of 'ordinary people' and want to draw those people's attention away from that fact by directing their ire at an alternative target (and 'foreigners' are always an easy target to direct anger at).
