UKIP's rise isn't *really* about Europe though, is it?

It's about austerity. The perception that the country is a mess and that the main parties are to blame/unable to solve it.

Renegotation is frankly too subtle for many voters who simply conflate economic hardship with polish delis for whatever reason.

Times are hard, right wing prospers. Twas ever thus.
