Re Ruddy, I don't know enough about the technicalities of what makes a good keeper, but he has always seemed to me to be the kind of keeper that stays quite deep in his area. Perhaps Hodgson is planning on playing with a high defensive line and wants a keeper that will act more as a sweeper.
