I detect a slight change in as much as

newly promoted clubs seem less likely to be regulated in their first season nowadays than in the earlier years of the PL (don't have the stats to back this up, it's just my impression). A big factor is 'momentum', Gary. We had positive momentum under Lambert, which carried us through the Championship in one season, and helped us to get enough points to be safe pretty early in our 1st PL season.
Now I fear we have negative momentum, and next season will be a hard slog- all depends on what happens now in terms of playing and coaching staff.
