Of course the proper solution is to separate pedestrians, cyclists & the rest

as they do in Denmark and other countries. And, indeed, here, at least, you do have to take care at junctions about cyclists (& pedestrians) coming down your right hand side. Some junctions also have traffic lights for cyclists
