that was part of the problem - for that mental 10 minutes we never got time to react from teh shock of of conceding one bad goal before the next one went in - bag-bang-bang-bang - and after that teh game was up.

With the mood of the ground from that point there was not much mileage in bringing on subs in my book - all you ran the risk of was potentially mentally scarring more players than those already on the pitch. The damage for the game was done, all you could do is put it behind you and move on to the next one as quickly as possible.
