if all else fails

it definately will not be the graphics card. It's not going to set the world alight but it is by no means rubbish.

The graphics card won't make the picture quality bad. It'll either display what you want it to or it'll crash and you won't get any picture or an error message. (or little artifacts on the screen)

If it's all set up right. with highest quality graphics and resolution and he still doesn't like the picture it'll probably either be the screen or very picky eyes of the user.
