Smart business
Might also be in the club's best interests
Delia won't let him buy her toy except at a price he thinks is stupid and on terms which won't allow him freedom. He might also think "Delia's made a right f**k up over the last few years, I'm buggered if I'm going to put money in which she gets to decide how to spend - she'll waste it and the club will be no better off."
So IF we went down (aaarrrggghh) and IF he was still interested and IF Delia's pride would let her sell to him, then he would get control at a more realistic price. And if money then came in we would be well placed to bounce back.
