Two thoughts

Agree the threshold is too low. They should have picked some other trigger, but maybe there isn’t one or at least not an obvious one? Or maybe there is, and then this is a bit of a cock up.

They should also get on with energy market reform, and should have linked this move explicitly to what they’re planning. There is a manifesto pledge to lower energy bills by 300 a year - if they achieve that then they can say in effect we will all be getting an equivalent payment, so it’s fine to scrap the WFA.
