ukraine claim to hold 1000 sq km of russian territory, about half the size of norfolk

exremely bold from ukraine, not a big deal territory wise and there is some conjecture about the claim but bit of a disaster for putin; nonetheless, impressive for 7 days fighting if true.

evacuating huge numbers of russian civilians is not a good look. russian troops now surrendering in numbers in kursk region apparently.

also, head of russian army gerasimov getting sacked is a pretty big deal. bortnikov (one of the key instigators behind the invasion of ukraine) head of fsb now in charge of the army a huge shift in the balance of power.

so where does putin go now, to the nuke button, to the peace table, or does he get felled from within? my penny is on the last one.
