The honest answer is probably that it is a squad signed more for 25/26
Most clubs plan in at least three year cycles and it would be the logical thing to do after 20 years outside the PL.
Don't expect McKenna to be there to oversee another promotion campaign though.
The fans would never be told that the club don't expect to stay up.
