No he is absolutely right. With the slight caveat that

kids need a bit of success every now and again to keep them enthusiastic. And by that I don't mean winning trophies but just winning the odd game, scoring a goal etc.

But winning youth games is not the goal at all. In fact focusing on it would be wasted energy. The type of youth coach who is all about winning tends to be living vicariously.
