You can read previous decisions on the FAs website

The starting point is NCFC have to demonstrate the ref made an obvious error

As an example, this is the Marquinhos decision (facts obviously different):

12. Having viewed the available footage of the incident on numerous occasions and in great detail and having considered the Club’s submissions, the Regulatory Commission unanimously agreed that the Referee had erred in his interpretation of the incident. Firstly, the player’s right arm was not clenched or taut with a view to making contact with the opposing player or striking him in any way. His arm was not bent, nor was it drawn back to generate any force to strike the opponent. Secondly, he was entitled to jump and challenge for the ball as he did, and whilst making contact with the player, it could not be said that this movement amounted to violent conduct. The opposing player’s reaction no doubt influenced the Referee that there may have been an act of violent conduct which was not the case. That is not to say that there was not contact with the opposing player, however, it could not be said he used excessive force or brutality.
