The number of injuries is relevant than who they are

The Sargent/Barnes combination was crucial to our early season form and now we are down to our 3rd/4th striker.

All teams have some players they can afford to lose less than others. Even those beloved Farke promotion teams notoriously couldn't win without Buendia, so if he'd gone down for a few months we almost certainly wouldn't have got auto promotion. Ditto Pukki (if we'd had to go down to our 3rd choice striker in those seasons it would have been Srbeny the first time and - I think - Idah the second). So yes, we had injuries in those seasons but importantly NOT to the really crucial players. We currently do have injuries to the really crucial players and, frankly, pretty much no team in this league (or any league) is in a position to avoid a big drop in form if that happens. Except probably Sheffield Wednesday, because their form couldn't drop any more...
