Just saying another way of looking at it is

The club has given him an opportunity to play the football transfer market.

He has gained experience, learned some lessons and I expect has a phone full of useful contacts that he has built up working relationships with that will enable him to further his career as a player in the football transfer markets.

Good luck to him in the future but if hes fishing in the same pool as his successor for players in 5 years time don't expect any favours.
