We can't furlough players safely because they could be considered to still be working.
They will be expected to maintain certain exercise and dietary requirements during this, and to report back on that to the club.
HMRC could make a case that those requirements mean they are still fulfilling an aspect of their role, and therefore cannot be furloughed.
The scheme is for staff whose role is no longer required as the work dies not exist for them to complete, staff who would otherwise be made redundant.
The office staff meet that criteria more neatly than playing staff.
