I think weighing up the risk of dying from the virus, compared with losing months or even years of active life trying to hide from it, is a really tough decision to make for people in their 70s. And a very individual one, depending on the personality.

In some ways its much easier for younger adults, who on average will have many more active years ahead of them, to effectively write off a significant period of time.
