Well our problem last summer was that we hadn't thought much about the Ashes but rather ha
concentrated so much on the one day/world cup that we were not as well prepared as the Aussies. They on the other hand had had players playing in England all summer to prepare, were over here for 3 months beforehand due to the World Cup so were completely aclimatised to the conditions and had had their players in domestic cricket using the Dukes ball that season in order to prepare. they had essentially put all their eggs in the one basket and it should be remembered that they didn't actually win the series, it was a draw. That seems to get overlooked, I have heard various pundits on the radio and to refer to us having lost the Ashes last season.
I have reasonably high hopes that by the time we go there the likes of Burns, Sibley and Pope will all be fully established which will give us a bit more solidity in the batting. The test this week and the rest of this series could hopefully be a big confidence boost/springboard for this team.
Bowling wise though they have the edge on us at present just in terms of consistency and we lack a world class spinner at the moment and I think a lot will depend on which way Archer's trajectory goes and whether England have worked out how best to use him.
