The pitch was flat but this side still has an ability to just no show for a session or a day of a test match.

100 runs short first innings again and now up against it.

Archer just bowling short balls all the time rather than bowling a decent line and length and then surprising the batsman with his variations. He’s strange the way his pace and threat fluctuates so hugely.

I guess we are rebuilding and there is certainly a lot of promise in this side and are by no means out of this game (had Stokes not dropped that surfer would have been different) but they remain a frustrating mix of excellence and ineptitude.
