Valid comparison to The Wire which was also brilliant and mainly due to the storytelling being about the social narrative, told through characters.
The move to focusing the story onto the characters rather than the running narrative did play to the high profile events and set pieces which all felt kind of grating.
I totally agree with the articles main point on how engaging social storytelling is.
