My back was in a rather bad way.

My grandfather had the same problem as me. The doctors gave him a metric f**kton of opiates, intrusive spinal orthopedic surgery and months off work recovering.

I was set up for a similar process. A friend suggested I see a specialist physio. Lots of spinal streches and manipulation, yoga style leg and pelvic stretching exercises, daily use of a back arch and things got better/less bad.

I then got put on rehabilitation pilates - girl I know - where everyone had a significant medical issue. I worked through that and now, several years later, just do a normal pilates class. My back is 95% better. No surgery. I suffer looking like an idiot in pilates class - all those pretty, flexible girls and there's f**king Shrek in the corner, bendy as a house brick.

The point I am trying to make is that the solution that a doctor sees may be rather different than the solution a physio sees. In my case, I am very glad I saw a decent physio.

The pain might stem from an underlying issue. Rather than just getting rid of the symptoms it might be worth trying to find the cause if not obvious.
