Oh I dunno. They're a better story than the telly.

If it weren't for the ubiquity of the telly series, and the impossibility of avoiding spoilers, I'd have waited for the next book before starting the most recent series of the TV show. Maybe even have waited for both the last two books before starting the most recent telly.

There's more nuance, many more characters, more story lines, more intrigue than in the TV series.

And they're not slow reads. I mean, a couple of them are big ass books (400k+ words) so yeah they take a while, but you get through them at a fair old clip. I'd try just the first one - it's not long - and see if you wanted to continue, if I were you.
