In the books, after the Red Wedding, Caitlyn Stark's body is tossed in the river and found some day's later by Beric Dondarrion's band of merry men. Dondarrion ressurrects her by giving her his kiss of life, which costs him his own. But although resurrected, she's disfigured, mute and f**ken really nasty, and out for vengeance on all Freys, Lannisters and Boltons. That is Lady Stoneheart. Rumours are rife about this Stoneheart leading a band of outlaws, and she's rumoured to be Beric's lover, but no-one knows her real past identity.
