he played to his base, was very careful not to make crass comments like Bush, kept largely out of the way of those doing their jobs. is making the right noises about relief funding etc.

Politically he seems to have played it fine so far.

remember, he doesn't need to be *doing* anything, he just needs to appear in control and not make f**k ups. Seems to be managing to do this from what I've seen.
