How does them bombing and killing people further their aim one tiny bit? In itself it gets them absolutely nowhere. This isn't about killing people.
They want to recruit all Moslems to their banner and they think the only way to do that is to provoke a war between Islam and 'The West' in which all Muslims are demonised in the West and are thus forced away from Western society and towards them. The sole purpose of these killings is to provoke a response that generates that societal wedge.
