that people are expecting inflation and price rises to kick in following the pound's crash post-Brexit and have therefore been rushing about buying stuff now (a bit like stocking up on groceries before a predicted period of horrendous snowy weather).
Or that was how I heard it explained a couple of weeks ago. And which makes sense.
