I don't think there are many industries that are less racist than modern day football

It will just take a bit of time for the previous and current generation of players (where black players are disproportionately high achievers if you look at the premier league and the England team and compare it to the % of the national population who are black) to work their way through the system to management and coaching roles but it will happen.

I really refuse to believe that any club does not interview black candidates for their management job because they are black. If managers are good, they will get interviews and will get appointed, simple as that. Fact is that football clubs just care about winning. They will generally appoint any manager that they think will achieve that for them whether that person is black or white or purple. There may perhaps be other cultural reasons why black ex players don't look to go into coaching or management roles that people within the game can look at but I simply don;t believe that its because they don;t get interviews. There are loads of intelligent, articulate black ex players working in the media who could clearly turn their hand to management if they so desired but seem to prefer media work instead.

Barnes was a sh*t manager. Ince has done ok in patches but got a rep for being a bit of an a**ehole and there is clearly something else about him that may put off potential employers. Chris Powell has done ok so far and he has a job that probably reflects his managerial achievements to date. Hughton probably has a better reputation in the game than his managerial ability deserves, partly because he's a good bloke who was treated shabbily by Newcastle but also perhaps in part because he is regularly held up as the highest achieving black manager in the English game and a role model for others.
