Britain has had a lot of immigration and the makeup of British society has changed.

This makes it very easy for people to scapegoat immigrant cultures because a lot of people always like to believe that their problems are being caused by people 'not like them' (Hilter's rise to power was faciliated by being able to convice large numbers of ordinary people that Germany's problems were all being caused by Jews and foregners). They like to believe this for two reasons: 1) it implies they are in no way responsible for their own problems and 2) it suggests there is an easy solution to their problems - get rid of all the 'different' people and everything will be fine
