A work colleague who supports West Ham made a bleedin? obvious point

West Ham Dave it was, season ticket there since he was a nipper. His point regarding Hughton was so obvious that it didn?t occur to me at all.

We spent last season watching means to an end football. Stay up; clear the debt on a budget where almost all of the ticketing income, c ?10mill, was used to pay back the banks.

(Anyone remember the Lambert will get all the Premier League Cash to spend headline after we were promoted? True as we did get the TV money, it was just the other income that had to be repaid. This is not a criticism of NCFC, it was the way it was, we were lucky to be there, and it was a good way of painting our soon to be improved financial position)

So I accepted last season, which over all was seen as a success.

With our new shiny attacking force I naively expected more this season. Maybe not 11th place again but a style of football that was much easier on the eye.

But as West Ham Dave wisely says, managers, like leopards rarely if ever change their spots. It?s Hughton?s style of football. Corporate is a good description of it. Cautious. Keeps us there. The football style associated to Allardyce may be different but the end is the same. It should keep us in the Premier League. Just.

Dave?s point was that Allardyce had a style/formula which he knew worked and would achieve results, and it was unrealistic to expect him to change. Why should we expect anything different from Hughton?
