Its a very old joke

about the uselessness of man in space, basically saying just give everything to the monkey cos it can do it better. No racist history or undertones to it at all.

Hodgson was basically saying to Smalling 'give the ball to Townsend quicker'.

Not a chance he meant it with any racist connotations whatsoever, but at least it is horrendously naive of him to cast Townsend as the monkey in the tale, if only cos it can be misconstrued.

Tomorrow's chip paper though. People like Hodgson enough to come to the right conclusions.
