If its an iphone and its not already unlocked then you have 2 choices...

1) Hope that you're IOS version can be Jailbroken and can be unlocked. however if an upgrade is made to the IOS software, you will lose the unlocked and it will be useless again.

2) Ask O2 for a factory unlock code (if they will give it to you, you may have to pay for this), this is then put into itunes and gives you a "factory unlock", which means you can use it with any sim, and update to your hearts content.
