Inter called us the best team they'd faced in years. We played intelligent, sophisticated, continental football of a kind English clubs just weren't capable of at the time; and the near celebratory din of the City fans for the hour after the game was magnificent.

They knew they'd been at an epochal occasion. Even the carabinieri were amazed!
