Some thoughts on QPHa, Barton, Warnock et al

First up I don't really give a sh*t whether or not it was or wasn't a red card as the main thing is we won and got three very, very important points from a key game. For me, that could turn out to be one of the most important wins of the season as we have plunged QPHa further into the mire and have given ourselves a big cushion from the relegation zone. This league is very different from the championship in that teams at the bottom don't go on four or five game winning runs. For the bottom three to even make up the current 10 point gap will be tough as we now really only need to pick up a win a month to get to a level that ought to see us safe,

Having said all that my own view, for what its worth, is that is was a a red card no matter how much Barton or Warnock might bleat. Firstly Barton seems to conveniently ignore the fact he attempted to elbow two of our players in the build up. More importantly, however, he definitely does move his forhead towards Johnson and makes some contact. It may have been light but everyone knows if you do that then it is likely you will be off. Unfortunately for him, the linesmn did seee it and he had to walk. I don't buy for a minute the notion that the linesman admitted he didn's see it.

As for Warnock and QPHa and all their bleating well i loive the fact that they now really hate us. They are a silly little club with a chip ont ehri shoulder because they know we are bigger than them an have a better manager. Warnock also knows that the more he bleats about being cheated, the more it diverts attention away from his own inadequacies and the fact his team, despite all their resources, is sh*t. How any manager, if they have watched any of our games this seasonb at all, can drop Shaun Wright Phillips when it is painfully obvious to anyone that we struggle to cope with pacey wingers who run at us is beyond me. Instead he put out a team with 4 central midfielders and no pace at all which played right into our hands. And despite what he, and various lazy national paper journos might buy, they were not the better side and cruising before the sending off. They scored (another soft goal which should have been prevented) from their only attack and, whilst we may have lacked a little cutting edge, in general we were controlling the game and looked quite comfortable. If anything, the red card made them better.

Other thoughts:

1. Them moaning about us being dirty cheats is rich. They were flinging themslevs down at every opportunity. Helguson could have got a red for his tackle on drury and Gabbidon also hauled back Holt when he was through on the half way line ony for Holt to be penalised. In fact the ref gave them absolutely everything in the second half.

2. The boy Ayala looks a class act. I still can't help feeling he has an error or two in him due to his casual style and determination to play his way out of trouble bt on the evidence of the last two games we could have a real player on our hands.

3. Shout out to Bennett who put in a really good shift.

4. Pilkington is so much better/more effective on the left.

5. I guess with the result you have to say it worked but I still think the decision to start Lappin was truly bizarre. He didn't disgrace himself and put in a decent shift as always but (i) given he and Drury on the left was presumably to keep things tight then it clarly didn;t work for their goal and (ii) possibly the slowest left flank combo in premiership history. I very much hope, therefore, that we won't see that line-up again this season!

6. God knows what team we will put out in the FA Cup now. Several of them clearly need a rest, Morison in particular who looked knackered after 10 minutes. Ultimately, I am a bit ashamed to say i'm not really bothered.

7. Thought Rob Butler was good on Canary Call!
