Could we have loosened the purse strings?

We were already losing money hand over fist, as evidenced by the speed of the complete financial meltdown following relegation (the inability to buy Windass, the forced sales of Newsome and Ward).

In truth we had already in fact 'loosened the purse strings' far too much, spending money we simply didn't have. The only way we could have spent more was if Chase has put some of his own money in (or sold to someone who would), and that wasn't his style.
