Techie Help SONY MP3

Thanks in advance guys....
Have had the A1000 for some time. All I want to be able to do is move music to it and off it. Do I HAVE to use Sonic satage as seems really s**t and wont let me transfer to the player only delete from it.
Pissing me off big time
I know i should have got an Ipod but dont wanna throw this one away now
