What he is demonstrating is that Reading can't forcibly sell him in the transfer window (however much it might be in their interests to do so) because he will never agree - it is clearly in HIS best interest to wait until his contract expires in Summer and have a wages bidding war between a wider range of teams who haven't had to pay a fee for him.
