We'd gone stale no question.
THe players he bought in were pony and he no longer seemed to have any plan to the building of his squad.
However, those days seem like shining lights now, and i'd bite your hand off for a 9th place finish.
Did we start to expect too much, were we over ambitious?
Looking at the record of clubs coming down then maybe.
Key to me was the parachutes though. you HAVE to make use of them, we didn't.
So i still think keeping him as long as we did was a bigger mistake than letting him go. There is a part of me that thinks that having waited so long ot act, we might now be better of had we stuck with him.
What we needed to do was be more ruthless first season down, so whoever came in (hopefully at that point it would not have been Grant!) had a season and a half of parachute payments.
