I guess you're right and it's not very helpful of them

and - worse - makes them look deceitful

They're in a bit of a difficult position with this one - here's someone waving 20m in everybody's faces, which is all the fans really care about; but for them, they see the value of their shareholding being decimated. But that's the nature of the game and it happens to businesses all the time - they have to issue new shares to raise investment.
