Or things similar to those you reference. He said something along the lines of "We're Newcastle United, we get 52,000 fans every home game, why should we care about a struggling team in the Fourth Division?"

Or something like that. I'll try to dig out something (and then as likely as not offer my apologies for my intense dislike of the horrid slug leading my memories to be inaccurate).
