too far away to see if the applause had already started, though it can be clearly heard.

Either way, I don't have a problem. It was not a minute's silence but a celebration of Graham Paddon and that's exactly what Earle and his director were doing, and drawing it to the attention of a wider audience, including a clip of a great goal.
