Prefer FIFA over Pro Evo on the DS...

...would recommend New Super Mario Bros. to anybody, Tetris DS is a decent upgrade of the original too.

Diddy Kong Racing is a decent alternative to Mario Kart DS too.

Best thing to get though is an M3 Simply or R4 - then you can play movies / music through your DS (with a Micro SD card), and download the games from the web to try before you buy (or just try...I tend to then buy the ones I really like).
