We're in a worse situation now than during Hamilton's time - yet most of us approved of Grant's summer signings, whereas the Blarneymeister's (McVeigh and Nedergaard excepted) were plainly ridiculous. Remember him bringing in anyone foreign who had a pulse on transfer deadline day, then boasting of our "ambition"? Hamilton also didn't have to deal with the inevitable hardship of a first season post parachute payments either.
Remember, Hamilton's record was one of failure at all three of his previous clubs even before he ludicrously got a chance here; and his first full season was a time of anxiety for the players, with many senior ones out of contract in the summer. He did nothing to reassure them, and behaved quite disgracefully towards the likes of Roberts and Fleming. The man was loathed by the majority of the dressing room, and rightly so: look at the s**te he continued to spout after he left:

Could you ever imagine Grant behaving in a similar way? In my opinion, until those last couple of weeks when things changed so fast, the vast bulk of the squad wanted to play for him - but the rot had set in well before he took charge in the first place. It was very clear to me at the time that Hamilton was close to destroying us - yet I'd blame the board far more than Grant for where we are now.
