I watched the whole game on Sky+ last night for the first time, and I made the following observations.
1.) Their first goal should have been disallowed as the ball had definetly crossed the line and then crossed in from that position. However, we stopped, they did not. We need to play to the whistle. It was a Sunday morning football error.
2.) We outplayed them in both halves. That is obvious. Hats off to Brellier and Russel and Chadwick. They all had their best games for us. It is staggering how badly these guys have played under Grant and turn on a performance like that in the first game under Roeder - it does not say much for Grants motivational or nuturing technique. Lappin had a good game and was MOTM but it was also obvious that Chadders was the best man on the park by a mile. I also like Brelliers style - all action and takes no s**t. Be interesting to see how gets on against a very physical team like Watford.
3.) The Hartson question: Yes he is fat. Yes he is immobile. He can't run. His fitness is a shambles and he looks like a blob. However, whatever you may think of Big John he DID make a difference when he came on 2nd half. He flicked on JC's wonderfully taken goal and he also put the wind up the hapless Ips**t defence.
The man has a presence that Big Dave can only wish for at present.
4.) Hucks. Red card. no doubt. Feet up, studs down the leg. However if hadn't done what he did I am convinced he would have been injured. IMHO both should have gone or both been booked.
5.) Roeder: Early days but I like his firm, gritty but intelligent style very much. Makes a welcome from the usual fitness-work ethic bluster from Worthington and the gabbling rants from Grant.
Happy days.
