I get the impression that this man isn't afraid to make tough choices.
I was quite surprised to see Dion come off at half-time considering he'd played well in the first half. However, considering how Cureton had played in the first half, I was surprised Roeder didn't take him off. Taking off Dion and putting on Les Battersby (sorry, John Hartson) was an excellent tactical move; Hartson led the line superbly and worked very well with Cureton.
If Grant had been in charge, Cureton might have come off at half-time, but I really do applaud for Roeder for having faith in him. Based on today, I believe Roeder can get the best of Cureton because he knows how to play him and won't do what Grant did which was grind down his confidence by criticising him etc...
A lot of heart and promise can be taken from today's performance and that was certainly the best derby match I've seen for a while.
If we play like that and Roeder continues to make excellent tactical decisions, then we won't be in the bottom three for long. Whilst it is probably still too early to judge Roeder, he is showing a lot of promise.
On the ball, city!
