From the EEN.
"Many fans said today said they were disappointed at the appointment. Several said they would rather have seen on of the other leading candidates, such as Paul Jewell, Steve Tilson or Martin Allen given the job. However, others called for all supporters to get behind the new boss at Sunday's crunch game with rivals Ipswich Town.
Kathy Blake from the Norwich City Independent Supporters Association, (NCISA) said: "If I'm honest I'm very disappointed - I was hoping for Paul Jewell so I'm gutted really but I expect we will get behind him. At least with a derby on Sunday if he wins that it will give him a chance to win the fans over straight away - that will be half the battle, but we will see."
John Tilson, chairman of the Independent Supporters' Association, said he was very surprised by the appointment. He said: “I think the great majority of Norwich City fans are totally and utterly surprised. Us Norfolk people are very difficult to please but we need to wish Glenn Roeder great success. I just hope he's the man who's going to get the players to roll up their sleeves and get us out of this trouble.”
Teacher and city fan Mark Burrows, 40, from Crome Road, said: “I'm disappointed - because he's got a poor managerial record with the exception of one season at West Ham. He's not really the inspirational appointment we need in terms of football or as a personality. We needed a big lift. It seemed to be that is came down to a shortlist of three with the other two being Paul Jewell and Martin Allen, both of whom would've been preferable as they would've given more of a lift.”
But Roy Blower, Norwich's Lord Mayor, called for everyone to get behind the new manager and his team.
He said: “We need to forget whether we like this particular manager or not but get behind the football team because the team and the club are bigger than any one person.
“We need a wall of noise behind the team on Sunday and for every match and I hope Glenn Roeder is the most successful manager Norwich City has ever had and everyone wishes him luck because he needs an element of luck.”
Alex Warren, a member of the Waveney Yellows fans group, said: “I wish him all the best because I think he's going to need it. He's got a big job on, whoever it was going to be, I think Harry Potter would have been more applicable in the present state. He's going straight into the lion's den on Sunday - some people will judge him on just one game which is a bit of a shame. But what I will say is he's been at clubs with money and now he's going to have to see what its like shopping in Lidl's rather than Marks and Spencer.”
Chris Higgins, Norwich City season ticket holder and shareholder, said: "It's absolutely imperative every man, woman, and child gets behind him from the start and gives 100pc support. He's got credibility as he's worked at the top end at Newcastle and that has got to be a cauldron to work at. He's got the most vital opening game to start his reign with and if he wins that on Sunday he will be a God before he starts - he will be on the right foot and everyone will love him just for beating Ipswich."
Malkybarkid said "What if, yeah right, you were hoping for a Jewell and then a Roeder ran up right quick and did a smell up your loved one's mary? Would you get on your BMX bike and chase him up the stairs in Jarrolds, or rub a mouse's nostril?"
