It's an interesting thought about Allen being better than Jewell; it might also be a moot point because this time next week we could be here with another name we haven't even thought about.
Sticking with these two, though - what does Jewell have that Allen doesn't? In alot of ways they're similar. They each command the respect of their players. They've both been known to find very good players in the transfer market. Equally they both play decent, attacking football.
By the look of it the only difference is experience. Jewell has it; Allen hasn't. Of course, there is no substitute for it - but would it be such a bad thing if Jewell didn't get it if it means Allen gets it instead?
I think we could do far, far worse than Martin Allen and over time, I think people would realise alot of what we coveted in Jewell we can get in Martin Allen.
