Why was Mumby hinting that new manager is currently in work?

Surely this rules out Jewell, Roeder and Allen. My guess is that Bruce was building an escape route, which doesnt know need and we are now back to Plan B. In which case it will be very embaraasing for the Board to explain why it has taken three weeks to appoint somebody who is currently not employed.
