How many people on this board who actually met and talked to Peter Grant in the close season came away saying how impressed they were at his attitude, knowledge, drive, and commitment and that he was obviously the right man for the job, i.e. the same conclusion the board came to when they interviewed him and found him to be the stand-out candidate.

Sometimes s**t happens. For one, I think we have been rather more than a little unlucky in the last 6-12 months. The idea that there is some "perfect" candidate out there who will absolutely guarantee success is total bollocks. The board will do they best they can and hope it works - just like every single other managerial appointment at any club. We may be lucky, we may not.
