I agree, they are all gambles

Even mourinho would be a gamble, becuase great record that he has, he doesn 't know the championship so would he qualify as having experience? (NB i am not of course suggesting he is a candidate).

The board can, and must, make a very careful choice but to a large extent its down to the playing staff whether he is the right choice or not.

Also i never really agreed that Grant was the wrong choice.
In hindsight he may be, but at the time he was young, hungry with a good reputation as a coach.
For me he was an ambitious appointment. Instead of going for managers out of work with average records they took a chance on a guy with the potential to be better.
It didn't work, but for me a Grant shows a hell of lot more ambition than a megson, robson, gregory.
